I dedicate this book to my three daughters, Paula, Peggy and Pam, who have always encouraged their mother to "go for it" in any endeavor that I have embarked upon. To my sister Ernestine, who was more than a sister during the growing up years, being also caregiver to us all. And to the women of all generations who find themselves for one reason or another in the struggle of providing and supporting a family alone, fighting prejuidice, hardship and other life uncertainties while still making a difference both in their family and the world.
